Keiko was released to the wild in May 2002 but died of pneumonia near Norway in December 2003.

Keiko spent many years in a Mexican marine facility, sadly sharing the fate of his fictional character, Willy. He was sick and depressed, with dorsal fin that leaned over. But I think it was last year or the year before that he was actually rescued by donations from his fans and released into the wild, just like Willy. Yay!

Last I know He was in Alaska, They were trying to set him free but He wouldn't hunt for food on his own so they were keeping him in a sectioned off part of the ocean.
