You have these flags right. Well tehy aren't really flags per say but just strips of cloth basically. One on each side of your pants. Now depending on how you play you ahve to pull one or both off to get the tackle. You DON'T knock people over to tackle though. You just remove the flags.

Flag football is a version of American football that is popular across the United States and Europe. The basic rules of the game are similar to those of the professional game, but instead of tackling players to the ground, the defensive team must remove a flag or flag belt from the ball carrier ("deflagging") to end a down. In most organized play, players wear a belt with flags around the waist, but the number of flags vary from league to league.
Like touch football, flag football was designed in an effort to minimize injuries that playing tackle football could bring. Over the years, however, contact leagues have emerged, where offensive and defensive players can block in certain zones or downfield, adding to the myriad styles of the game.
The game is now common among many high school gym classes as opposed to contact sports.

It fun football for small fry. My 8 yr old niece does that. Its football same as hardcore but without the tackling. everyone wears a flag on each side of their waist and the object is to grab a flag at which point play stops as if it were a tackle. You wouldn't want my cute little niece to get hurt would you?

Its just a fun, low-contact version played by adults and little kids. It gives you the chance to play without adding unnecessary contact. Contrary to popular opinion, it has nothing to do with "wimps", you get enough ankle injuries, etc. without needing the contact injuries on top of it. In my opinion, the "wimps" would be the people who don't play at all, and just sit on their couch watching tv.
Players are tackled by yanking the flag, rather than driving them to the ground.

each player wears a piece of cloth (easily removable) hanging from their waistline on both sides of the waist. To "tackle" a player carring the ball, one of the cloths has to be pulled from the player and dropped at the spot of removal. The play is dead at that spot (the player has been tackled). No one gets roughed up as in tackle football, no one can say "he missed me" as in touch football.

the people wear flags or small scraps of cloth on their waists and instead of tackling the people just pull out their flag or cloth and it's thrown on the ground so they know where they are stopped.
