well the salem witch trials are very interesting. 19 people we hanged and hundreds of people were acused for witch craft.

The colonies actually had lower taxes than the English citizens in Great Britain. The reason that they thought it was abominable was for two reasons. One was that they weren't being represented in Parliament and the second reason was that they were founded under "mercantilism" which basically said, "We, the mother country will not charge income tax or heavy duties (tariffs) on imports if you go over to this colony."

I have one --
One of the interesting traditions they had in the 13 colonies was "bundling". This was something they did with couples who were dating to prevent sex before marriage (remember -- this was a much more religious society). If couples were engaged to be married, they would be allowed to sleep in the same bed together as long as they were bundled. This is where their family members would wrap them together tightly in a sheet so that they couldn't do any... um... hanky panky.
As you can imagine, many found a way around this :)
