I had my IUD last month and since then I've been having light bleeding everyday with small blood clots at times. Is it normal? I also bled after sex. I have my period today and it's very heavy with a lot of blood clots. I also have mild cramps. Any info would be great.

Serious, decent answers only please.

Due to it being the para guard it is very normal it can take up to 1 year for your body to adjust to the IUD remember its a foreign object and your body is going to try and expel it natural that's why you have the spotting and heavy period with blood clots.

I have Mirena and I experienced the same as you minus the heavy period and blood clots but I did spot and I did spot after sex esp.

I would recommend trying a different position I noticed if I have sex everyday and I'm on top I m more likely to bleed after sex so try switching up the positions per encounter.

Personally I would give it 2 more months and if it persistes go to the DR to ease your mind.

I have my IUD fixed since 1994 till now and only changed once. I felt perfectly fine wihtout any problem. I suggest you have your doctor to check it out if it has been fixed properly. The causes of cramps and clots could also be the results of too much cold drinks or cold food you consume. Food like soft drinks, ice-cream, wintermelon, watermelon, etc, etc.... If you have those before your period, you might experience cramps and pain. I have a maid who drink coca cola when she has her period, cos she said will give a smooth flow without clots. Therefore, I try it out and it give me no clots and cramps, but heavy flow. You may check with the chinese medical hall what herbs to warm you womb. Try it, it helps. Like I used to have headache while have period did know that just S$1/= per month of chinese herbs solve all my problems, now I don't even have to take it anymore. Take Care!

December will be 1 year since I had my IUD. What you are going through is completely normal. I was that way for about 4 months off and on and now I don't have a period at all, and I am not Pregnant! I Love it. Bare with it , it will be worth it, I thought something was wrong to and went to the doctor and they told me everything is ok. But if you are still worried, go see your doctor, just to clear your mind of worry.

You should check with your gyn, becauase you should have no side effects. You might need a different type if the one you have doesn't "agree" with you. I had four, between and after my 4 kids, and never had a problem of any kind. I know occasional problems are reported but they are a very small minority. With the IUD there are no hormones, no weight gain, no nothing. It's the ideal contraceptive. Check in with your doc, and I wish you well!

well since you only had it last month it does take time for your body to adjust to it.you have to remember you have a foriegn object in your body and your body is screaming ok what the hell is this thing inside of me.so thats why you are having some cramping and your period usually does get heavy with an iud at least mine did anyways.but if you a follow up appointment keep it in case if there is an infection.i had a follow appointment with mine but when i had mine put in they gave me anti biotics to avoid an infection and believe me i felt like crap the first month to.in fact i have another follow up appointment and i had mine put in in june of this year.so make sure you make a follow up appointment
