Ok first you need to know this multiplication rules:
(+) x (+) = +
(+) x (-) = -
(-) x (+) = -
(-) x (-) = +
Once you know this, you can multiply signs when given the case of adding or subtracting integers that have different signs. For example:
Add 9, -8, and 15
9 + (-8) + 15
here you have a multiplication of signs: (+) x (-) = -, so the sign that goes before the 8 is -:
9 - 8 + 15 = 16
here's another example:
Subtract 5 and -6:
5 - (-6)
here you have another multiplication of signs: (-) x (-) = +, so the sign that goes before the 6 is a +:
5 + 6 = 11

Sometimes it helps to refer to a number line as well...at least until the concept gets clearer in your mind. In case you're not familiar, a number line is just a line with negative numbers on one side, counting down to zero, and then counting up on the other side...like - 5 -4 -3 -2 -1 0 1 2 3 4 5 You use it by starting at the positive number and then moving the number of spaces towards the negative number. For example if you had +4 and -2 you'd start at the 4 and move two spaces to the left (towards the negative) to get to the answer...2...it's kind of a trick at first, but with practice you'll get it. Oh, and you can put as many numbers as you like on the number line.

eg. 10+ (-4)
when two signs coexist (like +- in the above example) it is treated as a - sign. Thus it becomes 10 - 4 = 6
If you have a case of the negative number occuring first (as in -6 + 3) just re-arrange both intergers , so it becomes 3 + (-6), and proceed as before. 3 - 6 = -3

- * + = -
+ * - = -
- * - = +
so, examples
3 + 4 = 7
3 + -4 = 3 - 4 = - (4 - 3) = -1
-3 + 4 = 4 - 3 = 1

ok, there is A Negative - and a Posotive +
Make a number like. Put a 0 and to the left put -1 -2 -3,, and so on. On the right do the same put put a posotive number. Which ever number is first, put your fingrer on that number. If it is a posotive number, move forward that many times. If negative , move back that many times. It may seem a little confusing,, but just see other answers and do this. you can do it,, turst me. 1.step 1 find out the absolute values of the two integers
2.from the greater abs. value subtract the smaller abs. value
3.to the difference attach the sign of the number with the greater abs. value
example
-21+38
21 and 38 are the abs. values
38-21=17
since 38 is >21 and the sign of 38 is +ve
answer is +17

if you mean + or -, then you add if it has a + and you subtract if it has a -.
(-2) + (+3) = 0+3-2=1
(-2) + (-3) = 0-2-3=-5

if you add a negative and a positive it is similar to subtraction because you are adding something less than zero. for example 5 plus -3 is 2. just like 5 minus 3 is 2. consult your math book
