Well, probably is my answer, but the political pressure to have one is not as acute as in the cases of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. In these cases, the perception was that their specific issues and needs were not addressed adequately by the Westminster parliament which was dominated by English MPs. If you like, there already was an English parliament. Remember in the latter years of the Conservative government, Scotland was being governed by a Conservative majority in Westminster, without electing a single Conservative MP.
A devolved English parliament, though, is a response to the so called "West Lothian" question, intially raised by Tam Dalyell, the Scottish, but anti-devolutionary Labour MP. He raised the question: under a situation where devolution has occurred, should Scottish MPs (and by extension Welsh and Northern Irish MPs) have a say on purely English concerns in areas such as education, when the responsibility for such policy had been devolved to a Scottish parliament. If there were devolved assemblies across Great Britain, with clearly delineated responsibilities, there would be no need to debate such issues at a central Westminster parliament, or only to the extent that Westminster directly affected each of the devolved parliaments.
Personally, I reiterate that I would support some form of English devolution, but probably at a regional level.

Won't that be great, another tier of government to pay for. If that happens they will individually become a local governments to the EU's European national power. That is pretty much what we have signed up for, but chances are the devolved power will go towards local garbage collection, fiats and flower arranging classes while Germany and France usurp the real nation state political power and run the big show.
The oil lies under international waters by the way and has been developed by English and American oil companies.

The only MP's that should be allowed to vote on pure English bills are English MP's.
It's crazy that Scotland can have devolution, have exclusive rule over its own affairs and then vote on English affairs too. I don't mind UK-wide representation in Westminster, but there needs to be a fairer system
The problem with an English only Parliament is that Scotland need a huge subsidy from England to maintain their economy. Every Scottish person gets £2,200 per head from the English (thanks Gordon Brown!).
Before anyone gives me a negative rating, know that I'm only quoting the official figure from the 2005 Barnett Formula. This is the recognised standard.
The oil is in international waters and owned by businesses registered in England and America. It's not really Scottish I'm afraid.

Yes. Then Scotland can get on with running its own affairs completely free of numpties such as TB and GB. The oil is ours by the way, and so is most of the gas (except that produced by politicians of course - I suppose England could always use that)

Yes, but the House of Lords should be abolished and a parliament with a broader range of representatives (in age, class, gender, race etc) be brought in. This government doesn't work, and hasn't done in a long time, because it's run by a load of old, middle-class and aristocratic twunts.

We are over governed at the moment. We have various councils and mayors and loads of MPs, the last thing we need is another set of A****** using up our tax money for more hot air.

we sure should. Seperate the four nations let Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland fend for themselves. This would also eleviate my fears of that fatty Gordon Brown ever getting a chance to run this country
