why was it so important to the spanishn that the inca stopped worshipping the ancestors and convert to christianity?

Spanish were highly religious. The Incan religion was considered to be pagan.
If the Incan converted, they would leave their traditions and less likely to revolt. They would become loyal to the Spanish. The children would mostly convert. That way when they are adults they have forgotten what Incan traditions they were taught. They would not be passed on. Incan culture would be decimated. The Spanish would succeed in their work.

Simple. At the time the Spanish were the worlds most intolerant religious fanatics and total bigots. They wanted everyone to be like them. Period not just the Inca's. Think 1400's-1600's Osama Bin Ladins.
