What about the case of a soft C, such as in the word charming? The letter K would not work in this case.

actually, they dont sound alike, the k makes the ka sound and see makes a sound similar but they're not the same. like words with ch dont try to say a word with kh it just wouldnt be right.

Because K is a hard sounds and C is a soft sound, so when pronouncing words with K you would say them differently then you would if pronouncing words with C.
IE: Chest would sound completely different if spelled with K...say it outloud KHEST. (it wouldnt be the same word at all).

You need to use them both because"c" is considered a soft letter while "k" is considered a hard letter

C can sound like s, but K cannot, and there are letter combos that make c sound different, such as ch, etc.

They don't. Cylinder, circle, cyberspace, ,etc. These have a "c" sound that is different from a "k" sound like communication, carrot, etc.
