The switching between knees is an indication that it's not structural (like specific bones or ligiments) and more likely to be chemical.
You could have inflammation even if it doesn't appear to be swollen. Try these things and note how they help (or not).
TOPICALLY: Try either Aspercreme, sesame seed oil or arnica gel.
SUPPLEMENTS: Fish oil casules (2-3 a day) Yould could also pop a fish oil cap with a needle and spread the oil over the affected areas.
DRINK: Black Cherry juice
All of these wil help hidden inflammation.
Good luck!

try "Bengay" or a topical analgesic like that. See how that goes. You may need a PRN to use only when you are in pain such as= perks or vicodin. or you may need something daily like Nurotin. Either way see your primary doctor he can refer you to a Physiatrist. (one who deals with just joints not to be confused with an orthopedic doctor. ) a simple solution is bengay, or physical therapy. What they teach you there you'll remember for life I promise. They teach you how to work with your body to make it stronger and pain free naturally.

You don't tell your age, but arthritis could be the cause. Check with a orthopedic and get some xrays if this continues. He/she will find the answer. FYI: To save having to pay for the cost of a visit to your family doc AND a visit to an orthopedic, I would get a referal (if your insurance or he/she require it) and go on to the orthopedic. It will save time and cash. If you feel your family doc needs to know the results, let the orthopedic fax them to him/her. They will.

Joint pain or stiffness of the joint may be caused by overexertion, injuries, arthritis, muscle pain, bursitis and other diseases. Depending on the cause of the joint pain, joints on both sides of the body and small or large joints may be affected. Some types of joint pains can be completely cured but for other types of joint pain (like pain caused by osteoarthritis), treatment will only reduce the pain.
