I've always wondered how easy/hard it would be to get into an Ivy League school like Harvard if you have your bachelor's degree from another less prestigious school, like a state university or small private school. Does anyone know the general statistics on this? Is it hard to get in?

At Harvard, for instance, an academic department might receive 200 or 300 applications for 4 or 5 spaces. The applicants are all good. So, to be the one chosen, you have to have near perfect grades, but also, something special going for you that sets you apart. Have you written your first academic book yet? Have you raised $1000s for the hsitoric preservation of some lost city? What have you done that will grad their attention. And another useful thing is if your favorite professor went there and his favorite professor is still there and part of the acceptance committee.

Depends on your entrance essay, interview, financial status, and ethnic background. Sheer, dumb luck helps too.
