I don't know the answer to your question-- but it is very funny in a way, and there's a magazine, I think it is called "Writer's Digest"
(not "Reader's Digest" -although they would probably pay you too) where they list different publishers who are looking for manuscripts or articles, but they also have a section for commedians who are willing to pay for jokes and one liners, and although you wrote it seriously, it is a great "one liner"--something that audiences crave from comedians. Your question is also a "truism" something that's true about human nature no matter where you go in the world. You would be surprised how much they will pay for a good joke--even a good idea for a joke. I think it is perfect just the way you wrote it. Send it in and see if you make some money!
I guess if I were to try to answer your question, I would say most people associate dying with being in one's 80's or 90's--nobody makes it much past that. So a 46 year old in comparison to a 86 year old would be young--40 years younger which is quite a bit younger. On the other hand many people think of "young" as 20 years old or younger, and anybody over 40 as "over the hill"- especially from a teenager's point of view. A 46 year old woman would be 30 years older than a 16 year older and a lot of life experiences happen in those 30 years-- graduating from school, choosing a career, getting married, having children, having the children grow up and leave, maybe getting a divorce, or seeing your grandparents and maybe one or both of your parents die--so many things happen between 16 and 46 that "age" a person --plus you get wrinkles and most Americans around 45-50 start getting "flabby". so they don't look young any more (except to an 80 year old). Get my point? I think you understand it. 46 is old to 16 year old but young to a 86 year old. So that is why if you die at 46 you're so young because of all the life experiences you could have had between 46 and 86, you're old because of all the life experiences you have had between 16 and 46!
Write more questions--it's good your thinking and questioning. Questioning is of the young, philosophizing(sittin around and talking about the 'good ole days' like you got it all figured out) is for the old. Can you guess which I am? I would say you are young, and I am old--but compared to an 80 year old-"-I'm so young"!
I hope I never stop questioning, & exploring, because then I reeally will be old by anybody's standards.
Nice meeting you and hope you get some great answers to your question. See ya!

I've never heard anyone but children say that 46 is old. Certainly no adult would say that.
