the term is actually "inalienable" and it means "that may not be taken away or transferred"
comes from a latin word that means "for eternity"

when refering to "inalienable rights" in the declaration of independence, it was meant that people (white men who are land holders specifically) have certain God-given rights that the King of England could not take away. Specifically these rights were Life (to not be killed by the king), Liberty (the right to make their own laws and assign their own tax rate with the revenue of that tax staying in the colonies not being transferred to England), and the pursuit of happiness (the right to own property without being overly taxed by the English government or required to house and feed soldiers for free).

The term Unalienable rights has a very specific and unique point of origination in the United States Declaration of Independence. Unalienable rights, which some have also linked to the term Inalienable rights, are stated to be an endowment by the Creator of men who are also defined as mankind and that the Creator is defined as being Nature's God and the author of the Laws of Nature. These unalienable rights include Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

Unalienable rights are rights that cannot be taken away from you. You have those rights in virtue of your being human.

Not only are they yours and they can not be taken away, but you do not have the ability to give them away either. Like airplane tickets.
