I thought about my ex for many years and just plodded along, however, the devil got worse as he felt he could get away with anything in the end, so in my experience NO to better the devil you know!

To me this means that sometimes faced with the unknown or something/one you dislike, it's better to opt for that which you already know is only sooo bad, the unknown could be infinitely worse!
