Well the people in california generally are more conservative, they tend to stay more on the safer side and follow the "normal"
trend. They're not typicall compatible with people from the East coast as the east, NY, NJ, CT, PA, are more liberal, fast paced.
It may take you awhile to get used to the area as it is much more crowded, polluted, and dirty than PA. It will also take you awhile to get used to some fo the people and their pace at life. Many people in CA also tends to mature slower, so i would expect you would probally get into some trouble/ disagree with new friends, such like that.

As for the plane ride, watch their movies, take a nap, dont sit by the window! you will feel much better. Think, what makes you comfortable, a special blanket and a pillow? bring those on board and wrap yourself in them, pring a few magazines or books, just keep yourself occupied.

Best of luck,

BTW san diego is beautiful, a little bit dirty in my opinion

I moved to San Diego about a year and a half ago from Northern California. It's a beautiful city but unfortionately far too many other people also think that. The people are very mixed, some are very nice and will help you out while others are fairly rude. The traffic really isn't all that bad if you know which freeways to avoid and when. San Diego is broken up into lots of little communities. I live in Mission Hills and like it, I've always felt very safe (I'm a 23 year old female). Mission Valley and Fashion Valley are nice too.

It is just normal to be nervous especially if you would move in to a new environment. That is also my reaction when I was in the Contra Costa county and was about to visit San Diego. I stayed more than 3 months in San Diego! San Diego is near the Mexican border, so expect many Mexicans around the area. In San Isidro, you will be able to see the last American exit!
I have friends who studied college here and they graduated to be fine people. I have a niece who studies at UCSD, her description of San Diego, you will love it here!
You have to study the area! I had just appreciated the whole of San Diego after riding the trolley. There are buses near the trolley stations also. If you will just use the map. It is quite confusing. I had bought 2 San Diego maps before I went there but gets lost through them. I bought a more complete one, however, it is so small to appreciate. I know of a couple who lives here for 5 years who gets lost in the area, there is another couple who had lived here for more than 20 years and feels the same way too.

I love San Diego. I'm from northern California and I find San Diego to be more conservative than around San Francisco. There's lots to do in San Diego. It is the 7th largest city in the US but doesn't seem that large because it is spread out into different unique communities.

There are lots of great beaches, restaurants, and things to do. Lots of outdoor type of activities because of the wonderful year round weather and it's location right on the coast.

Avoid Tijuana and join some groups of people with similar interests and you will fit right in.
