When i take school tests or quizzes I blank out all the time. I spend 3 or 4 days studing the material and i still end up blanking out. It makes me mad because when i get the quiz or test back i end up having a bad grade, not failing though. But what really makes me mad is that i knew the material. So how do i not blank out????

well, it's great to study....but it's also good to study the day before the test, or on the same day of the test...it's cramming, but the good thing is the information is still fresh in your brain...and that's all your brain is doing: processing that information...

also, when you get your test/quiz, don't feel overwhelmed...sometimes, the words just pop out and you can't concentrate...just put down your pencil and read through the questions...then put your test down and wait a few moments to relax...(think of something happy)...then start your test.

During that break, your brain is processing the information...it is searching for the information you need...when you start, your brain will have removed anything unimportant, leaving only the information you need...and you'll be able to remember better..
I hope this helps!!
Good luck!!

The main idea is to relax and not get stressed out.

As you begin writing the test, just shut your eyes for a moment, try to relax, take a deep breath. Also imagine as if you have aced the test. Then begin taking the tests.

In between the test, if you get stressed out, repeat this above exercise . If the test is a long one (say 3hrs), take a 5 minute break in between. Get some water, stretch yourself.

Also, you can take mock tests before the actual test. It may make you more comfortable.

Well, you just have to think to yourself: I know this stuff. You shouldn't be worried about it if you know about it. What sometimes works for me is when I know I'm smarter than someone and then I get a good grade to prove it. That's not very nice, but it helps me sometimes. I also use competition. Today, my geometry teacher announced our grades. There is extra credit on the tests, and I know all the material. So I did everything, and I got 107 on my test. So I got one of the highest grades in the class. Then this kid beat me and got 108. So I was in second place, but wanting to get the highest grade definitely makes me pass the test. You just have to stay positive and tell yourself that you can pass because you know the material, and/or because you want to beat someone, and/or because you want to prove your intelligence.

This might sound weird but if you get say half way through and you start blanking out take a couple minutes gather your thought and then start working again it might all so help if you study like 10 Min's before it and try not to sit by anyone or anything that will distract you!

I always hated when that happened. One trick I used to help keep me focused was to place something on my desk while I took the test. Something as simple as simple as a rubber-eraser works. Use that same item while you study. That object becomes a focus point that allows you tune-out the rest of the world and opens the pathways in your brain to the material that you studied.

Good luck!

I think you are just stressing yourself out by worrying so much about it. I actually think you may be overdoing it with all the studying. Instead, study less and do something that you enjoy doing before the test. You'll be more relaxed and you'll do much better on the exam.
