Piniella is a good manager, but then again many people said the same thing about Dusty Baker before he took the Cubs over. Any team that goes 66-96, like the 2006 Cubs, has many needs, and I doubt that even Piniella can do much for this sad bunch. They might have a surge, even push .500 ball next year, but will certainly sag back into mediocrity soon after. My own prediction is this - 78-84 in year one, 71-91 in year two, and 70-92 in year three which will be Lou's last. He had enough patience to stick it out with the D-Rays for a while and he'll hold in Chi town as long as he can take it. But they need talent!

I never had an rather reliable opinion of Lou Piniella, yet this doesnt' somewhat replace it. i do no longer think of the government has that plenty to do with a team's fulfillment. yet specially circumstances a team advantages from a replace of atmosphere, and a managerial replace is specially circumstances only the element to do it. only check out what surpassed off to the Orioles - greenback Showalter isn't some form of baseball genius; he only replaced the approach of existence slightly and that led to the O's to start triumphing. If I had to make a gamble, i could wager that the Cubs won't shop Mr. Quade next season. There seems to be an excellent form of tension on them to hire the fan admired, Ryne Sandberg. He'd make an honest supervisor, yet extra importantly, he'd excite the followers.

The Cubs would be hard pressed to be much worse than last year. They have already said they will spend more money, plus Pinella is an excellent judge of talent, far better than Hendry. There is no logical reason why they would not have a shot at winning at least 80 games next year.

probablly the same as they did against dusty baker. piniella is too old to motivate and transform a team like the cubs into a world series caliber team.

I feel bad for the Cubs. They think they just got their savior, but they just got a manager. Without a good team a manager is nothing. I say they will win 70 some odd games.
Thank You

Lou is a good manager. He proved that with the Reds, Mariners and Yankees. The reason he did not do well with the Devil Rays was because he had no support from the cheap owners. This will not be a problem with the Tribune co.
