I SWEAR by Magic Erasers for pretty much everything. If ever you have a cleaning problem try the Magic Eraser 1st. ( just make sure you read the box 'cause there are a few things you aren't suppossed to use them on) Like someone else said don't rub to hard but I've used it on my finished wood mantle and it works well.
You should try it for the Sharpie problem too... just be careful not to rub the finish off and do a spot check in a spot where you won't really notice if it takes the finish off a little.

Great Q- if you get the great answer- I will be watching.
My 3 year old just "sharpy'ed" [very permanent marker] my bedroom wooden door.
I was told to stripe off the varnish, sand, buff, then re stain and varnish....Or maybe just paint the door. [dude, I ain't Martha or Tye]
Since every door is wood and it matches...well....I need another answer as well.
Good LUCK honey!

No it doesn't damage walls. My mom uses it all the time to get pencil marks and finger and hand prints off the walls. Just keep scrubbing and it should come all the way off. Good luck!

Yes it can...
You can rub the paint off a painted wall too.. so don't rub too hard.
