Deaths are ususally a matter of public records. You might be able to find out quickly by locating a local newspaper and checking past "obits". If not, the County Clerk or equal in the county the death happened should have a copy of the Death Certificate on file. Knowing the name and approximate date of death is a great help.

I know in Nassau County it is and so is the will of the deceased, I looked up someones, Its amazing what you can find out. All public records Sometimes on line you can try.

Yes. Public notice is required when people die. Look up his/her name in the local newpaper(s) in the municipality in which they live(d). Search the newspaper obituary section.
