Probably not a good idea to expose any laptop to cold or hot weather for a long period of time. If you're just running in somewhere, a few minutes or even an hour shouldn't hurt it. I wouldn't make it a habit.

First question, HOW cold? Because if your talking about 40-35 degrees your probably fine on that count, but if your talking like 40 below zero then we have a problem.

Theoretically frost could form inside the computer and when you took it into a heated aread it would thaw and the water would cause it to short out.
More likely to have it stolen, why tempt fate?

No, the inside of the screen will freeze and when it warms up, the ice will turn to water and then screw your computer because the water will seep through circuts and destroy it
