Podcasts are beneficial as grooup activities in which students must research and present a "documentary" or news report using video and audio. They can also podcast in a foreign language they are studying. I have seen podcasts where students in a sixth grae Latin class report on a gladiator event, or French students on the storming of the Bastille. They can report on a histoical event, recreate a favorite scene from a book, etc. It serves a writing fucntion because they must create a script, and they can do a story board first for the video component. So there is a collaborative, research, reading, writing, and producing the en product.
