No you shouldn't do anything because even if what was done wasn't a criminal offense because of the age of the person, it is a crime for an adult.
The school has to provide a safe environment for the children, and they have to behave in a manner which is least likely to incur legal action. For them not to take action against the child would have made them a target for possible legal action by the other parents.
If you're concerned because the parents weren't notified, then this is a matter of policy and as such should be raised at the correct forum. If you are the mother of the child concerned, then you should contact the school and ask what is the schools policy as to why you weren't advised. Don't get angry with them, don't try to get even. They have a job to do. If it was an oversight, then accept the apology with grace. There oversight is far more trivial than the behavior of the child.
As to getting your child back into school, I think you should make sure that both you and the child sign a letter authorizing the school to notify you if the child breaks school rules.
As someone else has said, don't be surprised if the cops come looking for more stuff. I think you should ring the local cop station and ask if they need actually need a search warrant, in some countries they don't need one for drugs.

The school board has every right to expell that child. I am sure that the parents WERE notified. It is quite possible that letters were sent, phone calls were made and somehow the parents never got the message.
If you notify the paper with something like this you will make yourself look like a lunatic. It will appear that you are against expelling children from school for bring narcotics to school. I would certainly hope that is not the case with you.

Of course this can be punished! I'm sure the parents were notified, it's a required thing in situations like this. If you find out for sure that they weren't then yes, you should call the paper. Still though, a student w/meth has to be punished somehow. Hope he has fun in juvie.

The school not notifying the parents is what has you riled up???!!! Not the fact that a middle school child brought drugs to school???!!! Get your priorities straight!!! That child is gonna think he was right if you think he was unfairly judged. Next time do you want him to bring a gun? Kill a couple of students, before you call the local paper? GET REAL!!!

I'm sure his parents were notified, and YES he should be punished...granted he's a child I'd hope he'd be given counseling and re-hab and I hope like hell his parent's keep him under tight supervision from here on out until he proves trust worthy again!
