It's a bunch of b/s that's why.

Remove the taboos around drinking, and you remove the rebllious nature of the drink.

If we waited till people were 21 to let them enrol in the military, then we wouldn't have 1/2 the fighting force we have today. That's 3 to 4 years out of HS, most folks would have found other things to do and most likely gotten wiser.

Because in the military, you're required to obey orders without any questioning at all. The age limit on drinking has very little to do with the drinking itself, but with drunk driving. Young people have relatively bad judgement because our brains' reasoning power matures after 20 years old. A lot of more people would be injured or killed by car accidents if 18-21 year olds are allowed to drink alchohol.

Because somebody decided that you can't be a drunken buffoon until you're 21.

In say Germany, you can drink at 16 but not drive until like 18.
In Canada, you can drink at 19.

Its an arbitrary age. I think the drinking age used to be 18 or 19 in the 1960's, then it was changed.

Because, once upon a time, young men considered fighting for their country a priviliege, they even lied about their age to be able to join the service. And, youth is an advantage during combat, for everyone but the youth's family.

Drinking, on the other hand, is something that had to be regulated because so many teens drank themselves out of control. You may ask your next question to the people who were in their teens when the drinking age laws were enacted. What they did to provoke actual legistation might curl your hair. Your grandparents weren't exactly slouches on the party scene.

Good point.
In that case, you shouldn't have to go to war until you're 21, not drink when you are 18.

Because the nanny state liberals caved in to groups like MADD and forced the states to raise the drinking age. One sidebar, if you are in the military, I believe you can get a drink in the enlisted men's club if you are over 18.
