You can calculate the area of a triangle if you know the length of two sides AND the angle between those two sides. (This angle is known as the "included angle".)

Formula:

Area = (s1 x s2 x sin(angle)) / 2. (That means multiple the length of side 1 by the length of side 2. Then multiple that by the sine of the included angle. Then divide that result by two.

Example: Two sides of a triangle have lengths 8 m and 5 m. The included angle measures 53o. Find the area.

Solution:
K = (1/2)(8)(5)Sin 53
K = 20 Sin 53
K = 16.0 m2

The area of a triangle is 1/2 *base*height. Their must be something in the problem that gives you the height. They probably give you a side length and an angle, in which case you can solve for the hieght using basic trig. I need more info to give you a more specific answer. Good luck.
