I've never heard of gophers doing such things, but you have multiple options.
Trapping them, there are various types of traps on the market.
Poison.
Also you can try to flood them out of there hole, use a garden hose put as far down into hole as possible and fill with water until you find the other end of the tunnel, water will come out and in turn the gopher will either drowned or move.
**And who ever said gophers are cute...what are you thinking, they are a pest, diseased, disgusting, and very costly to many people.

Go down to the garden store and get some traps. That is the only way you are going to control the pests. The sonic/electronic repellers have been proven time after time to be absolutely useless. Poison pellets, grain or castor plants could be a hazard for your children and your dog, and chasing the varmints away with water in the hole works for as long as it takes the tunnel to dry out again.

Juicy Fruit Gum, chew it a little, drop it in the holes. Dead gophers become fertilizer for your lawn.

I have I think a mole under my garden. Every night I see my flowers disappear. So I bought this dried pepper mixed with cows blood powder. When you see a hole pour it in. Keep doing it because they come back.
