Have tried a cleaner/wax combo... some improvement but not much. My son bought it used from a dealer and it looked great at the time... could it be that part of it was repainted and they did not add the clearcoat? It is one of those irridescent colors - Iris, I think it is called (purple). Should I keep working on it or do what a neighbor suggested - "Go to MAACO"?

Sorry but there is nothing you can do except replace it. See that is the problum with todays cars. Thy put on a cheep paint job, and then clear coat it, ( which is a plaastic cover) then polish the clear coat. Once it comes off it leaves blatches all over. So take it from a mechanic, you will have to get it recoated or repaintes.

Some MAACOs are good, some aren't.

If your paint has a clear-coat it's designed to be multi-stage. In other words, without the clear-coat it's not going to shine.

On multi-stage cars, the clearcoat is always the first to go.

If the underlying paint is in ok condition, you can ask a shop if they'll do just the clearcoat, but you're probably looking at a complete new paint job and one to two thousand dollars to get it done right.

A '95 Probe is worth about $500 if it runs.

It would be best if you'd just take it out back and shoot it.

There was a paint used several years ago called Plum Crazy. Many cars have been painted that same color and apparently by the same mfg. of the paint. The paint job was awful and everyone that has their cars that color has the same problem. I suggest you have it repainted perhaps a darker purple and make sure the clear coat has been applied properly.
