I have three kids, and, unfortunately they all have the same problem. My 6 yr old still struggles. Karo syrup does work. Just about a teaspoon in a regular bottle, I use white, but I don't think it matters which. My kids' pediatrician recommends it. Some people also recommend glycerin suppositories, but I've never had any luck with them. One thing I've done that works on the spot, when you don't have time for the Karo to kick in, is ( may sound gross but it works ) put your fingers round her lil butt hole and help her push it out. She'll still have pain but it'll be over a lot faster.

Although your baby is a bit young to be on cereal, it's not unheard of.

However, has anyone told you to make it very runny, or to make sure it's a single grain cereal, and not a mixed grain? And is it iron fortified. Iron can cause consipation. If there is any history of constipation in the family, consider that, but also be aware of celiac disease.

Try a single grain such as rice pablum. As for baby food, introduce new foods one new variety every two or three days. Babies don't care if it's the same food every meal. And baby prunes are usually easily tolerated, they will give extra fiber. Prune juice, or apple prune juice is also a good idea.

Make sure baby is getting LOTS of fluid,at least 6 bottles a day at this age. And she should also be having plenty of wet diapers, about 6-8 a day.

Keep in touch with a doctor, and if you can see a public health nurse that may be helpful.

Blessings for this baby's poor bottom. It may cause her pain which in turn may cause her to hold it in from fear of pain, which begins a viscious cycle that may last her whole life.

I have been going through the same thing with my son. Here is what I did, I started feeding my son organic baby food apples and then I lighted up a little on the powder in my son's formula. Talk to your baby's doctor first, but it may just work. I'm also thinking that your baby might have hemorraids. It might be a good idea to take the baby back to the doctor.

Ask your Dr. b/c the bleeding could be a sign of something severe. If it's not try putting some lubrication like Vaseline or KY jelly to easy it out.Even taking her temperature rectally can help her to poop. Give her a little prune juice or baby prune foods a little goes a long way.

Is your daughter on formula? if so try using one with lower iron, my children had the same problem. Also give her a little bit of prune juice (I believe they have this in the babyfood aisle) mixed with water, or try the plum baby food. I think they also have a supository for babies, you might want to try that as a last resort. I know how you feel, I felt so bad for my babies when they had this problem, poor little angel... I hope this gives your little one some kind of relief.

My son had the same problem. It's because the cereal has iron in it and it's harder for them to digest. She will eventually adjust, but in the mean time make sure she is getting alot of water. Apple juice and rice binds them up. Consider feeding her prunes with her cereal, Gerber makes them in 1st foods or watered down grape juice.

First of all I have had two children. It doesn't sound too good that your little girl is struggling to poop, especially if her tiny bottom bleeds. You should go back to your Dr and explain this to him or her. If your daughter can't keep her milk down, she probly has had too much? Remember babies are excellent at vomiting all their milk up. Is she gaining weight? Perhaps you could also mention it to your clinic nurse if you have one. I hope you can find a solution from the answsers.

Try increasing her intake of water and juice. Often, milk can cause constipation, or perhaps her body is adjusting to new foods. Only introduce ONE new food every two weeks to allow her body to adjust and to watch for allergies. Pear baby food or juice is really good for getting things moving. She also may just have a sensitive tummy like my daughter who had trouble digesting anything but breast milk for 10 months. But now at 19 months she can eat ANYTHING. it may just take her a while.

Try mixing juice or fruit with her cereal. If you use prune juice, only give her about a teaspoon. A little goes a long way. That's what I used to do when my son had that problem.

My baby would poop hard and get all red from the pushing but she never blead. Her poop became softer and can't even tell anymore when she is going poop. I would suggest you talk to your doctor about that. Good luck!
