it is called a compound microscope because it has more than 2 lenses. when ever any apparatus hac more than two things of the same type, it is called compound. also the presence of so many lenses affects the light many times to magnify and get reflected from the mirrors. the complete process is a bit complex. thats why it is called a complex microscope! also, its simpler ersion (with two lenses) is also availabe. this is far more easy and could even be made at home!! as this is simple microscope, something got to be complex!!!

The earliest microscopes had only 1 lens and are called simple microscopes. Compound microscopes have at least 2 lenses.

Compound means more than one thing, so a compound sentence is two main clauses, therefore a compound microscope is a compound microscope because it contains various lense pieces, ocular lense, condensor lense etc.

It has more than one compund lens. First scopes had a single lens. Newer ones have multiple lenses on a rotating platform, that allow you to switch magnifications without much refocusing.
