I'm all for preventing the saving of coastal LA too. All of those things would be counter productive.

Growing mangroves, palm tree, Christmas trees providing rock jetties are no doubt that will reduce the effect of Tsunami. But not for saving coastal LA.

Coastal L.A. cannot be saved. It is doomed to slide into the Pacific any time. As for wood piles, and Christmas trees, who knows?

What exactly are we saving it from? Erosion of sand? Although some dams have prevented much of the sediment and sand from refilling the beaches, the coast is still in good shape IMO. Rock jetties tend to help local spots but might result in more erosion in others. Christmas trees placed way out help fish to find hiding places but don' t anything for the beaches which I am aware.
