My three teens have myspace. So do I. I set up my account so that I could be on their friend list and moniter some of what they are doing. I do not have their passwords, but I can see their friends lists and I simply question them about anybody that I don't know. When they first got the accounts, we went through a lot of discussion about the dangers of the internet--and I sometimes mention those things periodically. I try to monitor the amount of time they spend on the site or the internet, and they do spend more than I would like. When it gets bad, the power gets shut off. I do not like the amount of bad language used on myspace, and I have seen some of that language in my own kid's postings. When it happens, they have the option of getting rid of it or losing computer privileges. I'm a teacher and several of my students have added me as a friend--and a lot of them use the same language. Maybe they think I don't ever check myspace, or maybe they just don't care, but you need to be aware that even if you monitor your daughter, she will have the opportunity to see things you might not approve of. Good luck with your choice.

Theoretically, it has the POTENTIAL to be safe, since the individual security of its users depends entirely on how they conduct themselves online, but since most teenagers (particularly females) behave like morons on the Internet, I wouldn't advise it. Posting slutty pictures of themselves, naming the schools they attend, and rambling about their underage, drunken escapades... it's just foolish what these braindead teenagers do these days. Besides, isn't there something more productive you could be doing with your time, even if it is on the Internet? It's 2006, you have an entire world of knowledge unthinkable to the previous generation available on the Web, and yet most people use it for MySpace and fetish porn... what a waste.

MySpace has been proven to be completely safe as long as you're not a complete moron.
Don't talk to people who constantly ask you for Nudes [Aka n00ds].Or things like that.
Truely get to know you're online friends BEFORE you meet them,do NOT put your school on you're myspace or your direct address/street you live on.Do not take slutty pics of yourself and expect men in their 40s not to drool and such over them.
Saftey on the internet is COMPLETLY simple and easy. All it takes is thinking.Thats all.
And also learn to tell a real from a fake.
And if anyone sexually harrasses you or anything to that such, notify your parent or guardian as soon as possible.

I have my own myspace page and personally I think it is lots of fun. And a good experience in designing your own webpage. Just don't post any personal information where a person could show up at your door. Don't post the city you live in or any address information. You'll be safe.

It depends on the teenager. If you don't give out personal information, and don't meet strangers offline, it can probably be very safe. If you behave in an irresponsible manner, MySpace can be risky.

depends on how you use it. you could set your profile to private so that no strangers can send instant messages or emails. only your friends that are invited through requests could send instant messages or emails and view your personal profile. it's unsafe for you to chat w/strangers at this moment because there are a lot of sex offenders using myspace, but the news last night said that they were planning on deleting the sex offender's account if they have any records so it'll be a lot safer to use in the near future, although it's still not safe to meet people through chat. hope this helps you out.

You really don't know who is a member do you. Just like you don't know who is on this site. Do you know me? Do I know you? Never let anyone know where you live or phone # or address. A teen might think they are corresponding with another teen, when in fact it might be someone alot older and dangerous. I don't even want anyone knowing my e-mail address. Play it safe, and no Myspace for a teen.

No because there is no way to validate the responses you receive. Unfortunately it's a playground for creeps and sexual perverts. Why play Russian roulette with your life or the life of a member of your family. There are safer ways and places to meet other teenagers that don't have such horrific consequences. Why would you want to risk so much for so little?

You have to just be careful when you go onto these sites, and that goes for adults too. Never agree to meet anyone anywhere, and if conversations get to the point where you feel uncomfortable...then end it. Never give out personal information ie: phone number, real name anything where this person could come and try to find you later.
