Sorry, I made a typographical error. The book is actually called _To Kill A Mockingbird_.

Harper Lee's classic story, To Kill A Mockingbird, is actually a true tale, only slightly changed. Nelle's neighbors (Nelle was her first name, but she didn't use it in print because she didn't want to be called 'nellie') could easily identify each other in the story, and it was based on an actual case that was tried in her home town. Nelle's childhood friend, and, later, a co-worker in the same field, was Truman Capote. Nelle worked with him on research for In Cold Blood, and their lives were intertwined for many years. Both fiercely denied that Capote had anything to do with Mockingbird, but Nelle was really hurt that he did not acknowledge the role she played in on-site research and information she dug up for Cold Blood.
Although Mockingbird was the only book Harper wrote, she did produce several magazine articles.
