There are two methods of ablation.
The first is by using water. Gynecare has a balloon method where the water stays in the balloon and is heated in the uterus to 85 degrees Centigrade for 8 minutes. Boston Scientific has a method called HTA where hot water is continually washed in the uterus for 10 minutes.

The second method is NovaSure which is using RF waves to burn the lining. Similar to using a microwave (for idea only) Very hot energy is applied to the cavity for approx. 90 secs.

All have equal statistics at 1 year of approximately 86% reduction in cycles and happiness with procedure, but only 60% total amenorrhea. At greater than 2 years- approx. 40% total amenorrhea. It is still a great option compared to hysterectomy.

I think you are talking about endometrial ablation, or NovaSure. Try googling one or both of those. Good luck.
