No you can't. They don't bite the wood as you might think, they actually soften it first with mouth fluid which breaks down the structure of the wood. Just the same as stomach acid does.Then they eat the paste or pulp that they have produced. So it is a silent feast, unlike me eating doritos.

The death watch beetle which attacks oak in old buildings makes the noise which gives it its name by tapping its body on the wood as a mating call. The most common woodworm is the furniture beetle.
