There is only one other employee besides myself and the owner of the business. This woman is verbally abusive with an explosive temper. She's manipulative and also a pathological liar. I'm in a highly specialized field so although I'm looking for another job, it's just not that easy. Also, there is no one above her technically. I'm in Wash state. Thanks for any advice.

I can not find any law against being verbally abusive in Washington State.
Our state would require a federal lawsuit, our state laws
would not help - they believe you can just quit.
Good luck!

Basicly it has to be proved. Once you have that work with a lawyer. In this small of operation I doubt very much there is a case. You`re on the right track to seek another job. It sounds like you may even be able to self employ yourself. After all you`re 33% of the people at your job now.

Any recourse you choose would just make matters worse. Keep looking for another job and ignore her. Ear plugs are cheap and since you are working for her then you have to take it or quit. Sorry but that 's the way I see it.

It falls under "Hostile work environment". If it's bad enough I would contact an attorney...some might be willing to take in on a Pro Bono fee....which means they may charge a small consultation fee and a percentage if you win the lawsuit.

Start keeping a private journal of dates, times and comments or behavior she has exhibited. Is the boss not aware of her actions? It's good you're looking for another job.

I'm not familiar with Washington (sorry), but I do know that numbers like that are listed in the front part of your phone book.

Speak up to her! It's like any other bully. Forget what you have to lose, because that's her power over you.

Your recourse is your tongue - don't look for some liberal in government to fend for you.
