I've noticed lately my car's steering as been stiff. It only happens after the car has had time to warm up. When I start the car and start going after I turn it on, the steering is really smooth and does not take much effort, after mabye 15 minutes of driving, I find the steering becomes more stiff. Whats the problem? What can I do to fix it? My car is fairly new (2003). The power steering fluid is at the proper level too. Any links that talk about the problem?

For one thing, don't listen to any of these people, except maybe Marvin. Your belt has a tensioner and you said the fluid level was ok. Rack and pinion going out? jeez.
You might be losing pressure internally when it warms up. You wouldn't lose fluid from that but you would lose steering assist. It's a shop job.

Too much fluid is hard to do because of the reservoir size and would not make the steering stiff. There is a clear full line on the reservoir. Other than the answers above note that a belt can be glazed and slipping without making a loud sound and you should have the steering gearbox inspected

Maybe some kind of heat related binding up on the mechanism. Sounds like a real b*tch of a problem. You gotta check the fluid while the engine is hot.

I would check out the belt situation, that could change and for the worse as the car warms up.

It could be the belt is not tight eneff. Once the car has warmed up, check the level again. I think though it is the belt is loose.
