one movie has to be "The Omen" (the old one) because it has a chilling atmosphere that does not scare but intimidates.

Dr. Terror's House of Horrors. It's an old one, but it has five different scary stories. If I remember correctly one of them is about a severed hand that is trying to kill the person that cut it off. Another story has a little 5" high African Voodoo Doctor that runs around and terrorizes people and cuts people up with his tiny sword. The stories are not very long but fun to watch.

The ORIGINAL "Texas Chainsaw Massacre".
It's a classic, and it's grittiness makes it all the more scary (if not disgusting at the same time).
Also "The Exorcist". What's scarier than a 12-year old posessed by Satan?
"Halloween". It's very realistic, which makes a film much more effective.

Wrong Turn

its based on truth and knowing that makes it even scarier than it was to begin with, it takes place in West Virginia, deals with a family of inbreds, and their obsession with human body parts...

Also it will make you not want to take any short cuts for a very long time!
