For as long as I can remember I've heard a low hum in my ears. I DON'T have tinitus. Sometimes the hum goes away and then it comes back again. Sometimes it is faint and sometimes it is loud. It sounds like a large truck going by on the freeway. I hate this because I can't figure out what is causing it!!

This happened to my Microbiology teacher and he went to the doctor.. They put in an alcohol solution and pulled out a huge piece of earwax....I was causing the tympanic membrane to randomly vibrate causing a huming noise

How do you know you don't have tinnitus? Have you ever had it checked out by a doctor? You need to get that checked out. It could be nerve damage, an infection, I know you don't want to hear it, but tinnitus...you can't self-diagnose these things and we can't diagnose it for you over the internet. You need to have it checked out by a professional.
