Yes you most certainly can. As was stated, leave it standing for as many hours as it was laying before plugging it in and it will be fine. Or 24 hours if it is more then a day.

I asked my a/c guy this question a while back when I needed one and none were available locally at them time. I asked him b/c he is a handy guy and there is a compressor that keeps the fridge cold. He said it is o.k., but you must have it upright for at least as many hours as it was lying down before plugging it in.

That's not the best for the fridge, but if you are moving a very short distance and have to lay it down, put the fridge upright, and keep it upright for atleast 2 times the length of time it was laying down before you plug the fridge in. The compressor gas has to settle back into the compressor.

Yes, I've heard that the freon settles improperly in the coils and that if you do have one lying down you need to keep it vertical for 24 hours before plugging in and running.

You can lay a fridge down to transport, but before you plug it in it should sit upright for at least 2 hours.

NOT recommended. The compressor oil can plug the cap tube, then it is basically junk. Referigeration equipment should only be transported in the position of actual operation.

yes but it will be destroyed if you plug it in without waiting 24-48 hours for the refrigerant to settle

Most of the replies were correct about keeping it upright as long as it was laying down.

However, two people said it was the "freon" which drains...its not, its oil.
