It really isn't anybody's business. There are certain boundaries that should not be crossed and asking a persons salary is one of those taboo subjects.

that's true I wonder the same. I didn't mind telling until I realized everyone else does and now I don't like telling either. I'm not ashamed neither scared though... it comes from not knowing how the other person will react if you earn more I guess, especially if you have the same job or both recently graduated.

Depends. If they make too little - they won't impress anyone. If they make a lot, it's not polite to brag, but the mystery is impressive. The bottom line is people are competitive and get all freaky when it comes to money. We still live in a class-based social system that is measured by income. So, it has simply become a taboo question because of this. It's impolite to ask, and it's impolite to tell.

With me, I earn a great deal of money and I don't like talking about it. I don't want people to think I am better then them or to feel uncomfortable around me just because I make more then most of them.
And, I supposed people with lower incomes are embarrased and scared of what people will think about their earnings.

Its lame to put how much money you earn into casual conversation ($86,500). Besides most the people that have a lot of money didn't earn it from hard work... because hard work doesnt really earn you money - smart work earns you good money....

Because it is a private issue... its like asking how much credit card debit you have... and then going ask for their social. Does it matter what some one else makes?? Are you living off their income???
