How many people do you think the Catholic Church or any other large organization (like real estate firms and automobile makers) pay off to avoid a "nuisance lawsuit", which may be without merit but is not worth the bad press and the cost of litigation?

Mark Foley suddenly finds himself with no means of support, since he resigned in disgrace and will probably play hell finding a job. Why not SUE somebody?

One who feels a morass of guilt that needs to be freed by confessing than repenting...
I dunno, but that sounded like the correct Catholic answer.
(I apologize--I have a lot of pent up rage directed at the Catholic Church-- I am myself a recovering Catholic. ** Though I dealt with some hypocritical priests-- luckily I was never fondled by one.)

One who is now in another country whose extradition laws will save him even if the statute of limitations were still in effect and who possibly wants to be pensioned off early (retirement).
