The ability to know our capabilities; to know that we can think and discover, do and cause effects to the world around us. The ability to know right from wrong; a sin from a righteous act. Humans are very capable beings, Hamlet, for example said "What a piece of work is man! How noble in reason! how infinite in faculties! in form and moving, how express and admirable! in action how like an angel! in apprehension, how like a god!"(Act I, scene iv) Men is capable of much and that we know that can either be for the better or the worst but all the same, it makes us human.

The ability of cognition. Other animals use tools (chimps). But we are the only species that can think about five minutes ago and ponder what life will be like in ten years. Some argue that is the ability to use language. Yes other animals "talk" but once again do they put meaing to objects (ie "tree"...a tree is tall and brown and hase green leaves).

Animals reproduce, fear, etc as well. What makes us human is the ability to Sin - concepts of morality and ability to think into the future.

So far, Black Sayuri is the only one who has the right answer. Humans may need ideas and what-not, as you said above, but that isn't what make them human.

well.you're logical, you can think in detail, you can prove things or understand proofs, you can process different ideas in your mind&then make them remain in your memory!at last you can feel!your feeling is so much deeper&more complicated compared to animals or plants.these are the reesons you're considered as a different being, called "human".

it's the plain fact that we were created by God. In His everlasting wisdom and love he made us with feelings, intelligence, love, with personality; He wanted us to reproduce; He even (this is good) gives us the ability and the privilege to talk to Him whenever we want to...what animal can do that? Oh, and He'll talk to our hearts. We are sooooo different from animals, we are created in His image an likeness....think about it; I hope this helps.

I think the translation of Homo Sapien sapien is Ape who knows he knows. What other species realizes that we are who we are? Does a whale think about itself as a whale? Do gorillas know that they are gorillas? Here we are thinking about who we are, where we came from and what its all about. Other species are concerned with food, sex and good place to sleep.
