I believe my boyfriend (who is 21) is addicted to his computer. Not only that, I also believe he has an addiction to the computer game, World of Warcraft. What makes me think he has an addiction is he constantly gets defensive when I ask him politely to get off his computer. When I ask him if he wants to go for a walk, go somewhere, whatever, he hesitats because he'd rather be at home, sitting on his computer, and / or playing "WoW". I'm afraid he'll end up like a drug addict, except with a computer. It seems like if he doesn't go on his computer right when he wants to, he'll have a nervous break down. I'm very thankful that he's not addicted to something physically harmful but at the same time, it can't be a good thing he needs his computer 24/7. I'm really worried. What can I do?

You need to first explain that his behavior is starting to cause a problem in your relationship. Tell him that you're willign to allow him to play his computer games and be on the computer but that he has to choose one or the other as his prime thing.
It seems as though he's ignoring you and the entire relationship for the internet.
I would also suggest dragging him to counseling. Addiction to online gaming does exist and can be helped.

Ive heard about this game, and if you are any kind of gamer, you would know that the game a person can be playing can be very addictive. This is really nothing to worry about. Its not like his face is gonna explode or anything. its his form of fun. Granted, Im sure hes probably neglecting his relationship duties a bit because of his gameplay. You can relay that to him if its a real concern for you (and only during his 'pause' period).

Actually it is physically harmful... sitting for hours on end, zoned out, losing track of time, it's no different than any other addiction!

You have a choice to make. My advice, as someone much older than you who's known a lot of guys- leave him and find someone else. If you're dating someone that has something you need to "fix", you're wasting your time and his, because he doesn't want fixed! No different than dealing with any other addict.

There are a LOT of women who tried and failed to "fix" an addict. No one can fix him except himself. If you hand him an ultimatum, me or the computer, and he hesitates or says stick it, you know where you stand with him. WALK.

As somebody who is in a relationship (And who plays World of Warcraft), I think you should be very open with him about your concerns. You shouldn't have to compete with a computer game. He needs to get his priorities straight. I'd rather do something with my girlfriend then play Warcraft any day of the week. It has nothing to do with me being whipped either.

Spooning > World of Warcraft

He needs to make time for both, and it's important for you to make sure he can have the time he needs as well. Like I said: You should never have to compete with the game for time. It may be time for a talk.

SHUT OFF HIS COMPUTER!!
well that will only work until he reaches the on button. try to take part in his games, compromise, negotiate,( to bad he is already like a drug addict). you need intervention talk to his family or someone that he respects and will listen to. Maybe you'll have to threaten him like telling him that your going to leave him and tell him hes not spending enough time with you

you never know maybe you'll have to find someone that would rather put his fingers on you rather than his keyboard and mouse

Since WOW is an online game, you could block the WOW servers in your firewall or disconnect the internet. Without the online portion of the game it is not much fun. Whos place is it? It may come down to you or the game. That may be the choice you have force him to make.

Walk up behind him and start giving him a massage-rub his neck and shoulders! Start kissing on him! If you can't get a response that way slap him over his head-tell him how sorry you are that it was only a natural reflex for you since you need some nice attention!
