Is it ok to buy a house with a sump pump???? Will this devalue the home if it runs every day?

How much water should drain out of the sump when the pump goes off? All the water or will some remain.

If water always sits in there (below the drain level) is this ok?

How common are sump pumps

Sump pumps are a house's last line of defense against water entry. They do not devalue a home. In several areas of the country they are normal.

Now, that being said the question is why is it running all the time. If it runs when it rains AND there is a drianage system that brings water to the sump hole then that is OK. If it runs when it rains but there is no drainage tile bringing water to the sump hole then you have to consider better water control around the house. If it simply runs all the time because there ie always water in the sump then you may have more serious issues.

Always remember, with many sump pumps - when you lose power you lose your pump. This may mean a power outage during a rain storm equals a wet basement.

Good luck.

In a lot of places where I live most houses have sump pumps. It's suppossed to run whenever it needs to so as long as it's actually doing the job of keeping the basement floor from being covered in water i'd say no it's just doing what it's supoossed to do. It's better to buy a house with a sump pump if the basement ever gets water in it.

a sump pump is designed to remove all water from around your home. if you have a slab you will not have a sump. a sump works like your toilet it has a float. once the water level reaches a certain level it will pump out the water. this will not devalue your home. note: get a battery back up kit for it. if the power goes out the sump will not work and your basement will flood

Almost all basements will leak to some extent depending on the level of the water table. A good sump pump and drainage system will remove the water quickly before it becomes an issue.
