Physical therapy is now strictly a graduate program so if you're just starting college then this isn't as big of a deal unless you're considering attending a school like the University of Evansville(enroll in the PT program during undergraduate studies and stay in until you graduate with your degree). Although PT programs are competitive and if you have a specific school in mind you might want to attend there for your undergraduate studies. www.ptstudents.com is a good website that provides information to undergrads, graduate student, and new PT's about their profession. There you can find a list of schools in each state that have a program. Another thing to keep in mind is that you'll probably be wanting to look for a school offering a DPT program since the majority of schools are transitioning to a DPT program in order to keep up with the new broad scope of practice therapists are inheriting with their "Direct Access" abilities. Wherever you decide to go be sure to look for PT student organizations at your school, volunteer in kinesiology labs if possible, and when during your clinical observations try to observe a variety of clinics (outpatient, inpatient, acute care, pediatrics, cardio rehab). Network with the "important people" at your school and keep those grades up ;). Also a student membership (much cheaper than the post-graduate membership) in the APTA is a good way to get news about your future profession. Good Luck!

I've heard Gannon in PA has a decent program, as well as Ohio State, but plan on being in school for 6-8 years as all universities have done away with a 4 year program, and most are moving towards doctorate programs.

Just so you know almost all places are phasing out undergraduate physical therapy, you pretty much have to go to graduate school for it now.
