My friend who is 7 months pregnant told me her Dr. said that if she is having problems sleeping at night, it was ok. I am having a hard time believing that. What do you think?

I think she is lying to you. Marijuana may not cause major birth defects but the long term effects on the child are many. I know a girl who did it and when her son was about 4 they realized he has learning which they say may have stemmed from her use during pregnancy.

I found this on line-

Marijuana can affect fetal and infant development and may cause miscarriage. Although the effects of marijuana on an unborn baby are still unknown, studies have indicated that prenatal marijuana use is linked to premature births, small birth size, difficult or long labor and an increase in newborn jitteriness.

Marijuana smoked by a pregnant woman remains in the baby's fat cells for seven to 30 days. Smoking marijuana can affect the amount of oxygen and nutrients the baby receives, which may affect growth. Marijuana is never safe during pregnancy and it can harm the baby at any stage. In addition, marijuana can have long-term effects on infants and children, such as having trouble paying attention or learning to read.

Tell your friend nine months of sleeplessness is just the beginning and unless she plans on being stoned through every uncomfortable moment in her life she needs to grow up. She isn't a teenager anymore- she is a parent! I am glad she has you looking out for her. Good Luck with a tough situation.

It's a very debatable question. I've known many women that have and none of their babies ever had any problems. I don't think that it's pot that can harm the baby, I think that it's just smoking. Smoking anything while pregnant will deplete the amount of oxygen that the baby receives which is bad. It may not harm the baby to do it a couple of times, but think about it this way: is it fair to deprive a tiny helpless infant who isn't even born yet of breathing even for a few seconds? I quit smoking pot as soon as I found out that I was pregnant because I wanted to optimize the health of my baby and create as healthy and safe an environment for him to grow in as I could. Pot as a substance most likely will not hurt the baby, but everyone knows that smoking will. Pregnancy is uncomfortable and loosing sleep sucks, but part of being a mom is sacrificing for the well being of your child.

That is a bunch of crap. A doctor does NOT tell anyone that it is okay to smoke pot. Especially with a baby on the way! That the is most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. What kind of a doctor is she talking about? If she has a hard time sleeping, she should take some sleeping aide pills, not smoke pot!

I was visiting a my boyfriends friend from work and this guy and his wife were expecting she was like 6 months along and they lit a joint up in front of me. I could barely believe my eyes. the poor baby in her tummy. Let alone they never even asked me if Iminded I left that house seconds after they lit up and never looked back. as i was 4 months myself and horrified for that unborn baby. don't know what to tell you other than you need to think for your baby first not you and having trouble sleeping at night will only be worse when the nightmares you may have after your baby dies or has problems. I hope you learn to take care of yourself before you decided to bring a baby into this world. I am 35 weeks pregnant and expecting my first baby. And I know I have done right by my baby can your friend say the same? If
you think its wrong and you do or you never would have posted the question.

I don't think her Dr told her it was OK. If a doctor was to say that it would be like telling them it is OK to have one cigarette a day. You know what I mean. I have had 4 children and I smoked cigarettes with all my children and with my first born i did smoke weed for the first 4 months of my pregnancy and She turned out just fine. Not that it is right I didn't know i was pregnant. As soon as i found out I quit.

Get another doctor fast. You are harming your babys health. Pot contains chemicals that can cause cancer. That has been prooved scientifically. Even the smoke can decrease the oxygen level by 25%. No one in their right mind would want to drug up a fetus. Please, turn in that doctor to the Medical Board quick! Then it's lawyer time if the baby is born with defects or emotional problems. Where did this doctor get his license from? Iraq?

I think your friend is too dumb to be allowed to have a baby. First off, no dr. is going to tell you it is ok to smoke pot. Are you kidding me? And second off, why would she want to do that when there is a chance she could harm her baby? How is she going to explain to her child that the reason he has learning disablities and is "slow" is b/c she is a moron and smoked when she was pregnant! Wow- Mother of the Year huh?!?

I try to be nice to people who post questions on here because I dont know if they are naive or just joking, but this is the stupidest question I have read so far. Tell your friend that the doctor that told her that needs to be reported!!! Although it may temporarily relieve her of her sleeping problems, she is going to cause long-term damage to her child.

Your friend is just looking for an excuse to smoke. Don't believe the doctor mumbo jumbo!

Any amount of smoking is bad but pot smoking is far better then cigarette smoking (medically speaking) The assumption being that you would smoke more cigarettes then joints. Again, medically speaking, they have found NO bad side effects in infants that had mothers who occasionally smoked pot...the sites that claim otherwise are talking about woman who are basically pot heads and even then they showed only a few problems that may have been linked to marijuana or other eating or activities that women was doing.

Got one for you all! California Child Protective Services will NOT investigate a claim of a pregnant teenager partying and drinking alcohol and/or smoking weed. Since the fetus isnt a "person" yet and is considered "part" of the mother. She can do whatever she wants. The father of said child and/or paternal family have no choice but to wait it out til birth.
