If you watched somebody wake up, then that would mean that you would have to sleep with him, or at least sit by the bed while he slept. So that would mean being intimate with him, getting close to him--the person would give anything to be that close to the guy.
Or it might mean "waking up" in a more figurative sense, like a person understanding something for the first time. Maybe the guy has a big problem, like he's in a bad relationship or he's on drugs or something. So if he "woke up" and opened his eyes to the truth, the person would be really grateful and would want to be there to watch him realize what's going on. If your eyes are closed, it's like, "love is blind"--when you're in love, you often overlook or totally ignore problems with the person you're in love with. If he opened his eyes, it would mean that he realized the truth of his situation, and if somebody were in love with HIM, he/she might want the guy to "wake up", snap out of it, y'know? Like sometimes parents or friends or lovers just want their loved ones to realize the truth about what's going on.
So I guess you could go either way with this, either literally waking up, or waking up like realizing the truth.
