I am looking for something to sell that I would not be bored with like tupperware or avon, maybee gargoyles or something dark in nature to appeal to those that are not frilly but tomboyish. And something I could make that would reflect my creative talents, what medium?

If you're into sculpting, try your hand at scale miniature creatures made with fimo, super sculpey, or one of the other polymer clays. Fairies sell very well and Halloween items are always popular with miniatures collectors too. Check out dollhouse miniatures or figures/artist offerings on ebay to get an idea of what sells, then just let your imagination run wild and have fun creating things. There is a specialized market out there for talent and originality, and sometimes the weirder or darker the item, the better it sells. Your initial investment is minimal, just the clay mostly, with a great profit potential. Good luck!

You patent ideas to protect your product. It doesn't mean something has to be patented to sell it to someone else. I doubt all the people selling things they created or serves on craigslist patented their ideas.
