Has to be Tom Baker. Jon Pertwee episodes were good too, but the classics were the baker ones "The Talons of Weng Chang" " Genesis of the Daleks" and so on.

Have to say David Tennant is really good too and manages to be funny and convincing in equal measure.

Patrick Troughton, Although Tom Baker was excellent as the Time Lord and Jon Pertwee produced quite a few good episodes.
Overall, i liked most of the actors that played Dr Who with the exception of Sylvester Mcoy and Paul Mcgann.

Has to be Tom Baker really, although Jon Pertwee was also good. That said, David Tennant is doing an excellent job with the new series, my six year old is totally hooked. It is funny to see a programme that I grew up with, still appealing to yet another generation.

But yeah, it has to be Tom Baker, the right measure of 'weirdness'.

Used to be John Pertwee, but over the past year (watching re-runs) I must agree - Tom Baker was best.
I hated Colin Baker, not too keen on Peter Davidson either.

Jon Pertwee.

Tom Baker was good to begin with but his egomania took over, he tried to control everything and the programme became the Tom Baker Show.

The new Dr Who have become sitcoms rather than scifi.

I think they all brought a different element to the role. I was brought up with Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker, than later with Peter Davidson and Sylvester McCoy.

To me Pertwee did for Who what Connery did for Bond. However Tom gave the character that touch of eccentricity which brought him up to date at the time.

Peter and Sylvester were a bit off the wall for how I saw him. I enjoyed the Eccleston era (short as it was) but David Tennant has joined the ranks of Davidson and McCoy as far as I'm concerned.

Well, everyone tells me that Tom Baker was the best, but I never saw the ones that he did.

Of the two most recent, I definitely preferred Christopher Eccleston to David Tennant

For me it is Tom Baker.I pick him because he was The Doctor when I first started watching the show.Besides the sentimental reasons, I think he showed a unique quirkiness the others didn't have. But the other actors did bring their own unique qualities to the role.So far I do like the new Doctor.
