Yes if you have punctured it that will be the gas escaping as that is what the freezer uses to keep it cool. Be very careful not to inhale this gas as it can be harmful (this is why you need to dispose of it properly and not dump it as some people do). Your freezer will not work now and do not attempt to use it even if you think it is still working ok as it will contaminate your food. I don't know what country you are from but if you are in England there is a good site to visit called www.24studio.co.uk, they sell things on credit and you can pay it back as little as £10 a month as I know new freezers can be quite pricy! You can also register for their service on line, a new freezer can take a while to be delivered but look for offers where they can take your old one away as it saves paying for someone to collect it. For now it looks like you will be living from the take away! Please be careful and if you can get the freezer outside the house then do it! Good luck

I'm afraid that it's had it! It can possibly be repaired but will not be worth the charges. Check your home insurance for accidental damage, you may find that you are covered for a replacement. In future don't use a metal object to 'defrost', only plastic. The new one that you get will have auto defrost anyway, so no need to scrape.

If you had paunched it, it wouldn't work. The casing is just installation, the gas is in the freezer plate usually at the back, it depends on where you paunched it, the hissing sound was probably just air
