I have a '97 C1500, 6cyl, auto Trans. Failed recent inspection. OBDII code P1870. The failure fell under emision-related-problem yet, the code refers to transmission slippage.
1 suggested answer has been a EGR valve.
Anybody have anything on this?

Modern electronic transmissions have about 18,000 things that affect the shifting, but none of them would make it slip. Engine sensors can cause overdrive dropout and torque converter unlocking, which is mistaken for slippage sometimes, but you shouldn't get a slipping code from that.
EGR valves are cheap and easy to put in, so lots of people try that just for the heck of it.

And no, the EGR valve, though electronic (Linear) will have no effect on the transmission shifting hard;
