I just got my snake yesterday and I have a few questions. He is a young one, about 12 inches long and very slender. I can't seem to find the right information online.

1-I have a red heating light. Should I leave it on all the time? Should I swich it with a different light? What are the concequences and benefits either way?

2-When is the best time to handle him? After feeding, I assume, but how long should I wait? An hour? After digestion? A day?

3-How long will digestion take?

4-How often should I feed him? And what quanitity?

5-Any other information you can give me?

1. If the temps are fine, there's no harm in leaving it on all the time... If you wanted to give him cooler nights you could swap lights out (or just turn it off if it doesn't get too cold at night). It's up to you

2. I always wait at least 24 hours after feeding before handling, preferrably ~2 days, depending on the size of the meal. Also, if he's noticeably going to shed, he may be more grumpy and want to be left alone.

3. Again, depends on the size of the meal, but usually 1-2 days or so. Snakes with access to warmer temperatures tend to digest quicker than those kept too cool.

4. Feed once a week, and as he gets older you can push it back to every 10-14 days if you want... Generally aim for a prey item about as big around as he is at the widest point. Enough to leave a slight bulge after he's finished. Sounds like you should start out with day old pinky mice and work from there.

5. Those are the basics, if you search for "kingsnake care" you should be able to find plenty of reliable care sheets... good luck!

Congratulations you are in for many years of fun!
do you have a heating pad? the light is fine its red so it doesnt bother his eyes. You can leave it on until you get a heat pad then turn off light at night.
you feed once a week one pinkie or 2 if he will eat 2 thaw to body temp.
It takes 48 hours to digest you should not handle after feeding for 2 days or he will regurgitate

they usually sleep all day so no need to get uvb they are active morn and night

Keep in mind always wash hands before and after, kingskakes especially since they smell something different they can strike. They eat pinkies, they like humidity to be moderate, temp I beleive is like 90 degrees
